My name is Lisa McSeveney and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Colorado. I enjoy working with individuals and families to help them work through whatever issues they are facing, improve their sense of satisfaction, happiness, and well-being. I truly believe that counseling empowers individuals to take control of their lives and is an important step in establishing mental wellness.
I earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. I earned a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego. I was initially licensed in 2001 in California, and became licensed in Colorado in 2008 after relocating with my family. My background includes working in private practice, residential treatment, outpatient hospital settings and county mental health. I have facilitated groups as well as couples and individual therapy. I have worked extensively in the areas of depression, anxiety, PTSD, drug abuse and dual diagnosis, domestic violence and women’s issues, self-esteem issues in adults and youth, ADHD/ADD and other school-based issues, family relational issues, infertility, and issues specific to military families. I am trained in Systemic Family Therapy and believe that people are best understood in relation to their families. I love working with families and helping the members grow as individuals as well as in their relationships with one another.
I utilize a number of counseling techniques depending on each individual client. My favorites are Family Systems, Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral. I am flexible and mindful of the diversity each client brings and will carefully determine which approach fits best. I help clients take control of their own lives through the therapeutic process, setting realistic goals along the way.
