My name is Lisa McSeveney and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Colorado.I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families to help them work through whatever issues they are facing, improve their sense of satisfaction, happiness, and well-being. I truly believe that counseling empowers people to take control of their lives and is an important step in establishing mental wellness.
I especially enjoy working with couples and individuals struggling with infertility, having gone though IVF myself from 2003-2008. My personal experience and professional training has been an invaluable combination in giving me the tools to help people with the emotional fallout of this grueling process; such things as marital strain, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, shame and blame, and feelings of being flawed and “not enough”. I want to help support you!
I earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego and then a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego. I was initially licensed in 2001 in California, and became licensed in Colorado in 2008 after relocating with my family. My background includes working in private practice, residential treatment, outpatient hospital settings and county mental health. I have worked extensively in the areas of infertility and it’s related emotional impacts, depression, anxiety, social pressures and coping strategies in pre-teens/teens, ADHD and other school-based issues and family relational issues. I am trained in Systemic Family Therapy and believe that people are best understood in relation to their families. I love working with families and helping the members grow as individuals as well as in their relationships with one another.
I utilize a number of counseling techniques depending on each individual client. My favorites are Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I love to incorporate tools like the Enneagram or other assessments to help demonstrate why we are the way we are. I am flexible and mindful of the diversity each client brings and will carefully determine which theoretical approach fits best. I help clients take control of their own lives through the therapeutic process, setting realistic goals along the way.
